Basic Computer Course Nepal | Beginner Training — Digital School Nepal
01 Beginner level — start here

Basic Computer Course.

Your first 4 weeks with a computer. No background needed — we start from "this is how you hold a mouse" and finish with you confidently using Windows, files, the internet, and email on your own.

Course Overview

What this course actually teaches you.

The Basic Computer Course at Digital School Nepal is built for one person: someone who has never used a computer before, or who has used one a little but feels lost the moment something goes wrong. In four weeks of hands-on practice, you go from complete beginner to a confident, independent user who can sit down at any Windows computer and get things done.

This is not a course about memorising menus. You learn by doing — typing real letters, organising your own folders, browsing the websites you actually use, and writing your first emails. By the end of week four, you've sent emails to real addresses, created and printed a document, organised a folder of personal files, and used Google to find answers to your own questions.

You will leave this course able to: use Windows comfortably, manage files and folders, type at a usable speed, browse the internet safely, use email professionally, install and uninstall software, and troubleshoot small problems on your own without panicking. That's not a bullet list of features — that's a person who can use a computer.

What You'll Learn

Four weeks. Four steps to independence.

01Week One

Meet the computer.

  • Hardware basics — what's a CPU, RAM, hard drive, screen, keyboard, mouse
  • Starting up, shutting down, restarting the right way
  • Using the mouse and keyboard with confidence (single-click, double-click, drag, scroll)
  • The Windows desktop — taskbar, start menu, system tray, notifications
  • Opening, closing, switching between, and resizing windows
  • Touch typing practice — finger placement and speed building
02Week Two

Files, folders, and finding your stuff.

  • Creating, renaming, copying, moving, and deleting files
  • Building a folder system you'll actually use (school, work, personal)
  • File Explorer in depth — search, sort, filter, properties
  • USB drives, SD cards, and external storage — safely plugging in and ejecting
  • Understanding file types (.docx, .pdf, .jpg, .mp4) and which apps open them
  • The Recycle Bin — recovering deleted files and permanently deleting
03Week Three

The internet, properly.

  • Browsers (Chrome, Edge) — tabs, bookmarks, history, downloads
  • Searching effectively on Google — what to type to find what you need
  • Evaluating websites — is this information real, is this site safe
  • Online safety — passwords, phishing emails, suspicious links, fake offers
  • Downloading and installing software safely
  • Wi-Fi and mobile hotspot basics
04Week Four

Email, accounts & your first documents.

  • Creating a Gmail account and setting it up correctly
  • Writing, sending, replying to, and forwarding emails
  • Attachments — sending and opening files safely
  • Organising your inbox — folders, labels, archive vs delete
  • First Word document — typing, saving, formatting basics, printing
  • Course project: send a formatted CV or letter from your own email to your instructor

Your instructor

Taught by someone who teaches for a living — not a side job.

DS
Dipesh Sharma
Lead Instructor — Foundation Programs

Dipesh has taught beginner computer courses to over 600 students in Kathmandu over the past five years — from 12-year-olds in summer camps to grandparents picking up a mouse for the first time. He holds a Bachelor's in Computer Application (BCA) from Tribhuvan University and is certified in Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS).

His teaching style is famously patient: he believes nobody is "bad with computers" — they've just been taught by people who were impatient. He teaches in both Nepali and English depending on what the class is comfortable with.

Frequently asked

Questions students ask before joining.

Do I need any computer experience to join the Basic Computer Course?
No. This course is designed for absolute beginners. If you have never touched a computer, this is the right starting point. Many of our students arrive nervous and leave teaching their parents.
Is the course taught in Nepali or English?
Both. We teach primarily in Nepali, with all technical terms explained in English so you build vocabulary you'll need later. If your batch is comfortable with English-only, your instructor adjusts. Tell us your preference when you enroll.
How long is the course and how many hours per week?
Four weeks, with six hours of class per week — twenty-four hours of instruction in total. Plan another two to three hours of practice per week at home or in our lab outside class time. Lab access is free for enrolled students.
Do you provide a computer for practice?
Yes. Every student gets their own machine during class. You do not need to bring or own a laptop. If you have one, you're welcome to bring it — we'll help you set it up for the course.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes. Every student who completes the course (minimum 80% attendance and a final project submission) receives a Digital School Nepal completion certificate. Employers across Kathmandu recognise it, and it's included in your fee — no extra charge.
Is NPR 6,500 really the total amount?
Yes. Tuition, lab time, all materials, printed notes, and your certificate are included. There are no hidden charges. We also offer a 15% sibling discount and group discounts (3 or more students) — ask us when you enroll.
